ECOMARINE coordinator, Prof. Georgios Georgiou (University of Cyprus, Cyprus), Prof. José Luis Acuña Fernandez (University of Oviedo, Spain), and Mrs. Beatriz Tintoré Pujol-Soliano (Archipelagos Institute for Marine Conservation, Greece) visited on the 22 and 23 of February 2024 the Marine Monitoring Lab (MML) of the University of Kerala, which was established in the framework of ECOMARINE Erasmus+ project.
The establishment of two MMLs in India (University of Kerala and Andhra University) and another two in Malaysia (Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and University Kebangsaan Malaysia) is the main objective of the ECOMARINE project. These Labs will allow the monitoring of marine ecosystems, microplastic pollution, and climate change following certain protocols and to be continued after the end of the project in the two partner countries.
Professors Biju Kumar and Suvarna Devi from the University of Kerala guided and informed the three visitors regarding the purchased equipment and the operation of the Lab. More specifically, the data collection and analyses as well as the implementation protocols have been reviewed with input from the personnel of the MML.
